2014 Washington Redskins
'Skins Defense Overlooked in a Strong NFC East Division
These days, when one thinks of the NFC East, they usually think of Dallas, Philadelphia and the New York Giants before they think of the Washington Redskins. In fact many predictions have the Redskins finishing dead last in the NFC East. What the skeptics fail to see, is how strong the Redskins defense is.

In a way I understand. At times, I say to myself, how the heck can you blame the critics? Dallas is 'America's team.' They have Tony Romo at the helm and a new stadium seating 80,000 of some of the most die hard fans in football. The Eagles just picked up Michael Vick to compliment Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook and a solid defense. The Giants signed Eli Manning to a lucrative contract just two years after he led them to a Superbowl. So what about the Washington Redskins? Where's the hype? How do they stack up in this division? Well, according to most so called experts, they are right at the bottom of the pile.
Lets take a look at the “Expert” Power Rankings. If you’re a Skins fan, it isn’t pretty. Fox Sports had the Redskins 17th out of 32 teams. The Eagles were ranked 3rd overall, the Giants ranked 7th and the Cowboys were 13th. ESPN.com had the Redskins ranked 20th in the off-season Power Rankings with the Giants #3 , The Eagles #4 and Cowboys #14. The Bleacher Report had the Redskins ranked 25th out of the 32 NFL teams entering the preseason (Philly was number 1, The Giants were 8th and Dallas was 12th). Is it just me, or are you beginning to notice a pattern here? There is no love the a Redskin team that finished 8-8 last year, had one of the top defenses in the NFL and, added defensive lineman superstar Albert Haynesworth to the mix. (Which, was arguably one of neurotic owner Dan Snyder’s best moves since he bought the team over a decade ago).
So, as a team, can the Skins please, get some R-E-S-P-E-C-T? Please?
Alright, alright, so the Redskins offense isn't exactly what it was back in the early 90's. There is not a standout O-line. No Art Monk, Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders posse. Jason Campbell probably won’t have a Mark Rypien or Doug Williams breakout season. However, for all you kids out there - defense win championships. Its that defense that will allow the Redskins to excel this year.
Don’t believe the hype? Lets take a peak.
The Skins defensive line isn't mediocre at best anymore. It has turned into a good, if not very good unit. Andre Carter is an emerging NFL pass rusher. Phillip Daniels and Cornelius Griffin are solid on the left side and Haynesworth can stop the run on his own. He's that good! (Well, almost). Their D-Line has depth too. Guys like Renaldo Wynn, Kedric Golston and supplemental 3rd round draft pick Jeremy Jarmon will be ready to step in when needed. There is even talk of their 1st round draft pick Brian Orakpo switching positions to help the pass rush. Without a doubt, the Redskins will see an increase in sacks and will be a much better team stopping the run. By the way, look out for Chris Wilson to cause some havoc as a pass rusher.
The Redskins linebackers are a dark horse unit for being the best in the NFC East. Lets face it, they have the talent. London Fletcher probably should have made the Pro Bowl last year (how does he always put up solid numbers, lead teams and never makes the Pro-Bowl?) Fletcher is also as durable they come. Rocky McIntosh is a tackling machine and rookie 1st round draft pick Brian Orakpo has apparently been very impressive in training camp. H.B. Blades adds depth to the already solid group of guys.
The Skins lost Shawn Springs in the offseason, but signed DeAngelo Hall to a big contract and have veterans Fred Smoot and Carlos Rogers (Look for Rogers to have another excellent season). You may argue that Hall isn't worth the money, but the man always seems to be in the right place for an interception - something that should help the Redskins in their turnover ratio.
LaRon Landry continues to improve at Free Safety and can make receivers think twice (if not thrice) about catching the ball. Chris Horton was a spark plug and a huge surprise last year at Strong Safety and Reed Doughty (Sean Taylor's backup two years ago) provides the Redskins something they have a lot of - depth on the defensive side of the ball.
If you aren’t convinced about this defense yet, just look at Defensive Coordinator Greg Blache. He studied under mastermind Gregg Williams and has quickly become a mastermind of his own. The defense finished 4th overall last year under his guidance and has only improved in the off-season with the acquisition of Mr. Haynesworth.
The final point here is the Redskins schedule. Yep, they have to play 6 games against the other three NFC East teams, but other than that, there is a fairly soft schedule that lies ahead for the Skins and their under-rated Defense. Lets have a look:

At Cowboys |

Win 20-17 |
At Eagles |
This would be a tall task. |
Loss 13-20 |
Saints |
Skins beat them last year. |
Win 31-24 |
At Raiders |
Al Davis should not be in charge. |
Win 24-6 |
Giants |
A Battle in DC. Skins edge the G-Men |
Win 20-16 |
Cowboys |
FedEx Field will be loud for this one |
Win 24-17 |
At Chargers |
Very tough finish to the schedule. |
Loss 17-23 |
It’s a pretty generous schedule for the Redskins all things considered, and the defense is guaranteed to fight hard each step of the way. It isn’t too hard to imagine the Skins going 11-5 and as far as where that puts them in the NFC East? Lets say second place and a wildcard birth into the playoffs.

For 2014 A few teams stand out as going to the Super Bowl, the San Diego Chargers, the New England Patriots, the New Orleans Saints, and the Atlanta Falcons. They all seem to have made key changes to effect their game for the positive. Out of those four, the Patriots and the Falcons really have honed in to what they needed to accomplish over the off season, and so they will be in the Super Bowl.
New York Giants
We have NFL Football tickets for all home and away New York Giants games. The New York Giants have been surprisingly quiet. Wide receivers Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress are not part of the team anymore. Who will fill that void? Does Eli Manning have it again? Even if Eli has got it, they would be a long shot for the Super Bowl

Atlanta Falcons
We stock tickets for all Atlanta Falcon NFL games at the Georgia Dome. Atlanta has made all the right moves this off season. They have kept all their key players, quarterback Matt Ryan, running back Michael Turner, and wide reciever Roddy White. They added an excellent tight end in Tony Gonzalez, and linebacker Mike Petersen. They are ripe for a repeat performance from last year.
